the series that debates the issues.

Executive Producer: Jerome DeLuca
Producer / Director: Alexis Fosse Mackintosh
Associate Producer: Al Zylstra

Think of “Washington Week in Review” but with passion and flair.

OutSpoken is a weekly one-hour discussion series that considers hot topics of interest to the queer and straight viewers alike. OutSpoken is a moderated round table discussion that brings together the newsmakers, experts, proponents and opponents of the issue under discussion.

The series will open with brief introductions of the panelists than a brief synopsis of the issue at hand by the moderator. The moderator will introduce a clip of the comments of a few average Canadians on the issue to seed the debate. He will then call upon the panelists to open the discussion.

The moderator will be Al Zylstra, a respected member of the gay community.  We would like to have two regular panelists and two panelists who are involved in the issue.

As some of the topics are controversial sometimes we will not be able to get anyone with an opposing view to debate the issue. In these cases we will have our resident Devil’s Advocate, Jerome De Luca. Jerome is a Vancouver based business executive. Formerly an ad executive Mr. De Luca is well versed in arguing positions he does not personally believe in.

The program will be shot live in the studio using HD cameras and minimally edited to remove bloopers and change camera angles. We will also go out into the community and ask average Canadians to comment on the issue. These clips will be used to move the discussion along.

Focus of the pilot will discuss human rights protection for those whose gender identity and gender expression. The topic to be debated is Bill Siksay’s private members bill to add gender identity and gender expression as distinguishing characteristics protected under the hate propaganda section of the Criminal Code.

Confirmed panelists are: Bill Siksay MP, Jamie Lee Hamilton a transgendered person  and human rights lawyer barbara findlay. We are waiting for a response from Real Women or Focus on the Family.
