Starring Jessica Barrett as Lulu Lemoan and Lawrence Orlando

“Confessions of a Str8 Drag King” is a one-hour documentary that explores the exotic world of femme identity and drag performance.  “Confessions” chronicles the experience of “hetero-queer” straight girl Jessica Barrett as she develops her alter-egos, Lulu LeMoan and Lawrence Orlando. Under the tutelage of “drag daddy” Edward Malaprop and with the support of Stilettos and Strap-Ons Burlesque troupe Jessica learns to morph from hyper-feminine to ultra-masculine at the drop of a hat.

But why would a straight woman dress up as a man or perform burlesque in front of hundreds of screaming lesbians?  Is she a lesbian in denial? Is she a political activist? Is she a freaky exhibitionist? Or is she just an artist who loves to perform? Jessica grapples with these questions while struggling to identify to herself—and to her male partners—why she is so drawn towards the queer community.

“Confessions” offers a peek inside the secret world of drag kings and lesbian burlesque where girls dress as boys, hot femmes seduce and gender-bending slapstick abounds. Shot on location in Vancouver, Canada, viewers are transported out of the mainstream and into the world of entertainment by and for the lesbian and queer community. The documentary explores the ideas of drag kings, femininity, masculinity, community and inclusion as Jessica explores the extremes of gender and where she fits in between.

Edward Malaprop and Lawrence Orlando

“Confessions of a Sorta Str8 Drag King” will be released in the summer of 2008.
